The Iron Rod

In Lehi’s dream there was an iron rod that “extended along the bank of the river and led to the tree of life"(1 Nephi 8:19).The strait and narrow path is straight. The oracle drawing “straight” is as follows.

The eye focuses on the iron rod. This iron rod was revealed to Nephi to be the word of God (1 Nephi 11:25; 1 Nephi 15:24).

The tree of life is at the end of the iron rod. The eye focuses on the end of the rod. It means, “checking someone’s behavior: good or bad”.

The tree of life is the love of God(1 Nephi 11:21;22). The love of God is Jesus Christ's sacrifice-he died for us. Here, the eye then focuses on Christ. “For, behold, I say unto you, that it mattereth not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament, if it so be that ye do it with an eye single to my glory—remembering unto the Father my body which was laid down for you, and my blood which was shed for the remission of your sins” (D&C 27:2)." And that thou mayest more fully keep thyself unspotted from the world, thou shalt go to the house of prayer and offer up thy sacraments upon my holy day....thou shalt offer thine oblations and thy sacraments unto the Most High, confessing thy sins unto thy brethren, and before the Lord"(D&C 59:9;12)
